New Star 9/13: Recap

I'm continuing my coverage of the closing stages of New Star, the Taiwanese H!P auditions. We are in our second final weekend of the show, it seems next weekend the girls will meet Tsunku. However I've learned that Tsunku and Nacchi were unable to make it to Taiwan to film the final show today, so perhaps the finale will be delayed.

Anyway onto yesterday's episode. Like I have corrected in my last post nobody was eliminated last week, instead the bottom 3 girls were warned to pick up their game. You can actually see a likely spoiler of this week's episode in my last post. It was unintentional so I apologise.
So this week we have 15 contestants again and they perform in groups of 2 and 3 to wow the judges once again.

The girls as usual, run out on stage to open the show, dancing to LOVE Machine and introducing themselves individually. They seem to have trouble staying in time lol. Oh well, they're beginners. Blackie also dances with them which is amusing. Onto the performances...

First up are...

Su Luo Yu (11) - Fan Qin Yu (13) - Lin Si Yu (13)

The girls dance to some r'n'b/hiphop/pop style song with crumping and moves which would never be performed by a H!P unit. Fan Qin Yu is a particularly good dancer, but they are all pretty decent. The judges seemed to be impressed: 4 out of 5 little flowers were flashing. One of them decides to sing... urgh!

Next performance...

Chen Mei Xuan (22) - Wang Zhi Wen / Wenwen (17)

Mei looks awesome and she automatically becomes a fav of mine (I'm so shallow). They sing and dance to some Chinese song. Mei has a nice deep voice but she seemed to be holding back (it might just be the song). WenWen's voice has a nice tone to it but once again holding back. The girls were pretty bad in general, they were out of time quite a lot. The judges didn't seem to like it, they got no flashing flowers *aww*

The sooner we move on, the better...

Zhao Guo Rong / Lightbulb (16) - Su Lin Xin (14)

The most noticeable thing about these two is that they act very Japanese, if you will: Opting to sing Tanpopo's Koi wo Shichaimashita, doing lots of little *hearto* hand motions and cutesy stuff in general. They both looked cute in pink and sang the song pretty well for beginners. They had all the dance moves down pat, it was pretty good. The judges were impressed and they got 4 out of 5 flashing flowers (the guy in the cap doesn't seem to like anyone). They were praised for their Japanese pronunciation.

Next...

Gu Yun (12) - Lai Yun Qi (10)

These two do some crazy-good dance, they're quite impressive. Once again, it is nothing that would ever be done in H!P but whatever, it's good. The audience loves it as do the judges (oh look the guy in the cap likes it, shock/horror). The girls are questioned on their singing because, you know, that's kinda the point of H!P. They've apparently never sung during the competition (or rarely) and it's worrying. I think they get 3 or 4 out of 5 flashy flowers (It's hard to tell).

Then...

Ke Min Peng (17) - Wu Si Auan (20)

These two perform some odd combo of drama/singing like some mini stage musical. They talk on cell phones at the beginning. We get a lovely shot of one of the judges with the biggest "...wtf?" face during the performance *lol*. They sing quite well (especially compared to the others) and finish the performance by running off stage, hand in hand. Now we wait for the judges to lock in with their flashing flower ... waiting ... waiting ... hmmm. The judges exchange glances trying to comprehend what they've just witnessed and the girls look genuinely surprised that they didn't like it.

Finally ...

Wu Zhao Xian (8) - Lan Ai Zi / Aiko (6)

Aww... this is too cute. The two youngsters run out in matching CHANCE! outfits, looking as cute as can be. I particularly like how the elder one cares for the younger like a little sister. How sweet. These two don't actually perform, we have to wait till the next episode. We do get a little preview though:

Oh no! Wardrobe malfunction for Aiko! She handles it gracefully, shouting something out that makes everyone laugh. Make it work Aiko, make it work.

Next episode I guess we will see performances from these two and the other two remaining contestants:

Zeng De Ping (17) - Ge Xiang Ling (13)
